History
How Did The Ministry Begin?
In 2003 the Calgary City Wide Prayer Rally prayer movement began as a definite leading of the Holy Spirit and a vision from God. David and Heather Peddie attended services at the Brooklyn Tabernacle in New York State in 2002. God used the visit that day and subsequent music and teaching through listening to CD’s of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir to begin a major spiritual transformation in their lives. Small Beginnings
Back in Calgary, David and Heather shared their experience with their church and challenged the believers to make prayer a priority. They joined a Life Group in their local church. Each participating couple had children of similar ages and the families shared similar professional and personal interests. As they shared personal and family needs, the group found more time was spent on prayer for each other, their church, and their community.
God Answers Prayer
God began to answer their prayers and the Life Group soon needed to move from homes to their church to accommodate larger attendances. A monthly prayer meeting was scheduled and then moved to a hotel room.
Vision to Reality
God gave David Peddie a vision about the potential of believers meeting together in an organized manner to mobilize the power of focused prayer.
In January 2003, that vision crystallized as the City Wide Prayer Rally. The first rally was held in April 2003, and the ministry has grown until today there are four rallies held each year. See Events As many as 800 have attended individual rallies. As the ministry grew, the leaders recognized the need to formally organize.
Global Day of Prayer
In early 2005, the City Wide Prayer Rally team was introduced to the TransAfrica prayer movement that was sweeping the world. The City Wide team provided leadership in organizing Global Day or Prayer which drew 11,000+ to the Pengrowth Saddledome on Pentecost Sunday in 2005 and 5,200 in 2006.
The two ministries are separate, but work collaboratively and are mutually supportive. Five City Wide organizers, including David Peddie, sit on the Steering Committee of GDOP.
